The Twisted World of Fiber, Hooks, Needles, Wheels and Dating after Widowhood

This is my story, and I'm sticking to it. Warts and all. I wanted to call it 'Seriously? WTF?', but that doesn't quite explain it all. Or does it?

October is glbt history month

BF stands for many things

This, as you know from a past post, stands for blazing fucktard- Which is the category I might be in myself.  The bf texted me Sunday morning.  He wanted to know if I would like to come up to HIS place.  He would make dinner and we could talk.  Of course, because I am such a loser tool, I said yes.  He is making chicken.  I made cookies.  The ride is an hour and a half.  Why am I seeing this guy?  Lol
He had better do a lot of talking, and it had better be good.  I have a nice long car ride to fantasize about exactly what he has to say for himself, and a very vivid imagination, so let’s hope I’m not a crying mess or totally pissed off by the time I get there.  I wonder if he fixed his “problem”?  I am afraid to ask……………………………….

Weekend Plans

I am going to a big bash an old friend from school is throwing.  She’s calling it Mountainstock.  There are supposed to be about 500 people there.  Most I won’t know, but many will be from the old neighborhood and back in the day- think Middle School.  Lol  I am bringing a crazy old friend that no one is expecting will actually show up, so this should be interesting.  He can be a total ass sometimes, so I hope today isn’t going to be on of those times.  I am also bringing my knitting.  It will either make people come talk to me, or steer clear.  I don’t really give a shit either way.  I haven’t knitted very much more on my Minimalist, so I really need to get moving on it.  I haven’t touched my shawl either, because I am at the lace edging, and really need to concentrate until I memorize the repeats.  That would not go well with live bands and beer, so it will stay home, safe and sound.

Househunting

The crowbar is starting to move the once immovable object. Saturday morning I went house hunting with my son, and the only good thing that came out of a whole morning of traipsing around the county was that I found a bunch of what I think are chestnuts.  What I was actually looking for were black walnuts, because I want to use them to dye some wool.  I don’t know what I’m going to do with a handful of chestnuts.  I guess I will roast them.  The first house we looked at was priced well below market value for the area.  Apparently, we chose the worst for first.  The house had decent vinyl siding and a new roof.  The problem was that it seems they put the roof on about 2 years after the interior of the house had been ruined by water damage.  Every wall, from the top floor to the basement was covered in mold.  My son is asthmatic, and has mold allergies.  The house stunk, and the only way to repair it would be to knock it down.  To top it off, the chestnut tree had a fungus, and it would need to be taken down.  It was huge- that would cost at least $3,000.00 - $4,000.00, and the street would have to be closed while they did it.  Which probably costs more.

The next house was really nice.  Except- and there’s always an except, they turned it into an illegal 2 family by, get this, cutting steps into the garage floor to enter from the inside.  Clever.  No one could see people coming and going from this entrance, but now the garage is useless as a garage.  Unless you want pull a General Lee and jump the gap to park your car.  And again, mold.  This time though, it was confined to the basement.  For some odd reason, the people laid wood over the concrete then covered it with carpet.  Mmmmm………  Can you say stupid?
The third house was just a general dump.  The highlight of that one was that the realtor, following her trusty gps, turned the wrong way down a one-way street.  She must be a Tea Partier- she apparently follows blindly.  lol   Needless to say, the mother (me) driving the police officer (son), did not follow.  The kid was having a stroke- she’s lucky he didn’t have his ticket book on him.  Haha

knit 2, crochet 1

I am still working on my Minimalist cardi.  The back and one front are done.  The second front is on the needles.  I have 9 rows left on the main body of the In the Land of Oz shawlette before I get to the lace edging.  I think I can go one or 2 more rows before I have to switch the cable length on the circs.  I hate cables that are too long, so I push it, and usually have a bunch of stitches pop off the needles before I change the cable out. I know, stupid.  lol  Thank God there are written instructions for the lace on the shawlette, because I can’t read a chart to save my life.  I’ve tried, and have even asked people to explain them to me, but I am just not visual like that.  So, written it is.  I hope to have these both done for Rhinebeck, but I’m not sure if it’s gonna happen.  The sweater is more important, so I should really pick that back up tomorrow.
I am also finishing a 12x12 crocheted square.  I am in 3 swaps for squares. The brilliant idea was that 1 swap wouldn’t be exciting enough.  Crocheting squares takes about 2 hours for me, and getting back 12 squares wouldn’t be enough to make anything with.  So I signed up for THREE swaps.  Sigh………  The problem is that all the 12x12 patterns are written for worsted, and people are asking for fingering, dk, etc.  Some have asked for cotton.  I HATE cotton.  It hurts my hands.  Next time I say I want to join a swap, just shoot me.  The only good thing is, when people ask for something other than worsted, I get out my trusty Barbara Walker Treasuries and practice a new knit stitch.
And, for anyone that cares (which doesn’t include me anymore), the bf (stands for blazing fucktard) did not show up on Friday.  New excuse- 25 minutes to go 1 exit because of Yom Kippur traffic.  Good to know I’m not worth sitting in traffic for.

If There's One Thing I've Learned,

It’s that men are…………… a disappointment.
I am seeing this guy.  Well, not really, because he says he’s going to come over, then never does.  It all started out really well.  We met online and chatted, and texted and talked on the phone for a while.  Then I went to meet him in person. We really hit it off.  He’s funny.  He’s tall. Really tall.  I’m not.  He has some tattoos.  So do I. He wears cool ties.  He’s the best kisser ever.  And I’ve kissed a lot of guys.  We’ve gone shopping together.  Shopping!  What guy likes to go to the mall?  We made a date to go to the shore for an overnite, and this is where it all unraveled.  He told me he has had a “problem” for a while, so he went to the doctor to get some medicine to fix it.  Seems he went to the Doc in a Box, and the guy gave him something that I knew wasn’t going to work, but whatever.  It didn’t work.  He was beside himself.  He laid on the bed in the fetal position, and I went out to the couch and knitted.  2 days at the shore basically turned into a 5 hour car ride.  With big gaps of silence on the ride home.  There was nothing I could say that was going to help.
Since then, he has drifted in and out. Text and phone only.  Won’t come over.   Didn’t hear from him for a week, so I figured it was over.  Next thing I know, he messenger’s me and asks me to make him an appointment with a specialist.  Oookayyyy.  And I should make it near me, because he wants me to go with him.  Well, my Mothering side says fine.  My practical side tells him he needs to give me his insurance info.  It takes 4 more days for him to get it to me.  I call the doctor, and they want more info than I can believe- or have.  So, I tell him he has to call there himself.  Do you think he did?  Nope.
I don’t want to jinx it- but he says he’s coming over tomorrow.  Any takers on a bet?
Oh, some knitting to lighten the load:
This is the start of my In the Land of Oz shawlette made with a Jellyfish Knits blank.  The cool project bag was made by my friend Dee.  If she ever puts them up for sale online, I will post it.  They are really nice.
Tomorrow, I will post if the Shadow shows up.  Or not.

A Hard Lesson

Well, I learned a lesson the other night.  Never type your blog stuff directly in the blogging area, because when it says it is being saved constantly, and that it posted successfully, it is probably full of shit.  I waxed poetic about spinning, knitting, hats and guys, and it is all lost to the internets.  Maybe somebody in Nigeria is able to read it.  Sigh………………

Okay.  Let’s start with the spinning.  I got some really nice Shetland from Midnight Purls Yarn on etsy to make my daughter a hat in her school colors.  See?
She likes ‘cat’ hats.  I got this pattern on Ravelry.  Where else?  The Shetland spun up like butter, and I did a slightly better than half assed job of plying it.  It took like 2 days to spin the 4oz., and another day to knit the hat, because I knit slower than a whale shits.  I need to learn how to pick, not throw.
I also got a totally cool hand dyed blank from Jellyfish Knits.  The color is called Gangrene.  And because I don’t knit socks- seriously, I am always hot.  Why would I make something that makes me sweat?  I am making a shawlette with it.  Which I probably won’t wear, because come on, where the hell am I going?  The shawl is also on Ravelry.  It is called In the Land of Oz, by Adrienne Fong.  I am 12 rows into the stockinette and yo’s, with 19 more to go.  Then it’s on to the lace edging.  I think I can do this.  What the hell is a center double decrease?  I guess it will all be fine after I switch the ssk’s and k2togs because I knit ass backwards lefty Eastern Uncrossed.  Don’t ask.
